Even if the baby never latches properly and breastfeeding doesn't work out, you can still bottle feed pumped milk. Our baby just sucked at breastfeeding. Never got a good latch, was slightly prematured so never stayed awake long enough to properly feed, etc. After a month of this, we gave up and my wife would pump while I bottle fed him. You don't get the bonding aspect, obviously, but still get the benefits of breastmilk for as long as you feel like doing it.
